Green towns are sustainable towns Parks and other green areas are a vital part of the infrastructure of towns and contain a series of environmentally, economic, social and cultural values. Trees influence the climate and air quality in a positive direction. The nearness to green areas and nature raises property values and attracts business. In a busy rural environment the green areas act as quiet oases which have a positive influence on peoples health and well-being. The open areas in a town are, for example, squares, market places, streets, roads, parks, churchyards, housing areas, lakes and woodland areas. There are also elements outside the town, for example road construction, planning and re-establishment of raw material pits, placing of windmills and the transition between town and country. Forest & Landscape Denmark work within three main areas: landscape gardening, technique and material, park management and landscape architecture. Furthermore, Forest & Landscape Denmark is the european authority on 'Urban Forestry & Urban Greening'. |
